We feel pretty comfortable around certain areas of the city now, and have found several grocery stores and the closest thing to a Target that we're going to get in Sweden. We have embraced the small grocery store runs and find it both exciting and challenging to shop for just 2 or 3 days' worth of food at a time. I'm looking forward to one of my boxes from the US arriving soon, however, as it contains cooking spices and seasonings. Oddly enough, what made my day today was finding bouillon in a grocery store downtown. It's the little things, right? :-)
Tyson's enjoying his new lab experience a lot. He's found that Uppsala University is much more academically rigorous than schools in the US, but he's enjoying the change and has hit the ground running with grant writing and research planning.
The temperature has been in the 60s since we arrived, yet most people here are bundled up like it's 45 outside. There will be plenty of time for scarves and heavy coats in the months to come, so we're sticking to our lightweight jackets for now. Fortunately our winter weather gear that we shipped from the US arrived today, so we are ready for when the snow does fly. Apparently last winter was particularly snowy. And people here ride their bikes all winter long. We'll soon be investing in chains for our bikes - seriously.
This is just one of the many architectually beautiful buildings we walk by in downtown Uppsala. I love the muted and varied color palette!
A rainbow in our back yard yesterday.
