God Jul!

Well, this is our last post from Sweden in 2011.  Next Friday we arrive in Illinois, where it's light, where we understand the language, and where Christmas is for us no matter where we live.

We broke out the snow boots for the first time yesterday and though we'll use them again tomorrow, by Tuesday the snow will be gone.  Fortunately we're anticipating good weather here, Copenhagen, and Chicago by the end of the week.

More Christmas trees are appearing this weekend.  Most people don't get them here until right before Christmas.  Star lights or candles are in most windows (including ours), which makes for a really beautiful scene when walking outside in the snow.  But nothing over the top or too showy in terms of holiday decorations.  No Clark W. Griswold types in Sweden   ;-)

We enjoyed a Christmas dinner with Tyson's lab last night.  His advisor's family hosted it and we had quite the lively discussions about the differences between our home countries.  We tasted our first Swedish princess cake, which was delectable!  We'll be sure to buy one whenever we have visitors  =)

Happy holidays to all!  May your travels be safe, may your time with loved ones be cherished, and may you greet 2012 with open arms!  You never know where the next year will take you, as we can attest  =)
