November Eatings

One of the common meats of Sweden is reindeer, so for Tyson's birthday, he wanted to try it.  Reindeer is available at all of the grocery stores and looks a little darker than beef.  It's a lean meat and is usually sold in roasts.  We learned it is served with currant jelly and we threw in some potatoes because what's more Swedish than little moist potatoes!  It was very tasty and the jelly really did make the meal  :)

We also celebrated Thanksgiving with 6 of my American coworkers from IESB.  The only stipulation to get in the door and enjoy a feast of Thanksgiving fare was an American passport  :)  Here's the biggest turkey we could find in Uppsala and the harvest pie in the background.  Pumpkins are not very common in Sweden, so we utilized butternut squash instead.  Yum!

On a related note, an English grocery store is opening in Uppsala in early November and we can hardly contain ourselves.  Among the goodies we are excited about purchasing is canned pumpkin!  Thanksgiving will be mmm mmm good this year  :)
