Since my last post was in October, I'll start around that time. October was once again the rainy month in Sweden. I would not recommend traveling to Sweden in October then not only because of the daily rain, but also because it gets darker and colder quickly in October. One nice thing about October, however, was a fall break from work/school. We took a trip to Copenhagen.
We traveled by train to Copenhagen, which took about 5 hours from Uppsala. It was a beautiful train trip - about half of which we had seen over the summer, but the other half showed us the southwestern part of Sweden, which greatly resembled the Midwest: green and flatter farm ground, windmills, and red barns. To get from Sweden to Denmark, however, requires travel over about 10 miles of sea. The magnificent bridge from Malmö, Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark is remarkable. The train tracks are a level below the highway, and both give spectacular views of the sea and the water-based windfarms just inside the Baltic Sea. Most of this route is above water, but the last approximately 3 miles are in a tunnel under the water. There is a manmade island 2/3 of the way across, which is where the above water/below water switch takes place. Here's a link to view the bridge and island.
We enjoyed our time in Copenhagen even though it was cold and chilly - typical for fall in Scandinavian countries. We toured the palace, ate some amazing sushi (no raw fish for the pregnant lady though), and saw "Madam Butterfly" at the gorgeous new Royal Danish Theatre.
Here are some pictures of our travels in Copenhagen. Enjoy!
